Obligatory End-of-Year Reflection Post

We all go through giant shifts in life and work and it changes the way we perceive the world.  I've had a big year of learning and change and it's given me some fantastic perspective about the world I live in and the people I love.  If I were a classical artist, art historians would call this my "Humor and Grace" period.

Here are some big takeaways that I felt were worth sharing:
  • Being a grown-up is hard.  You're working hard to make a living, helping you family thrive, be a good spouse, friend, and parent.  Be sure to carve out some time for you to take care of yourself.  That time will pay off in patience, good nature and smarter thinking.
  • Being a good person is hard.  Keeping tabs on what's going on with the world, trying to be sensitive to everyone's plight without letting the empathy monster cripple you is a big deal. I'm working to strike a balance between sensitive and functional.  Work on finding a way you can contribute to the greater good on a regular basis to avoid crippling anxiety.
  • Change is hard.  Although it's necessary, constant and oftentimes has a fantastic outcome, it can also be unsettling and scary.  Set some time aside for you to grieve for the paths not taken, the expectations not met, and the fears realized.  Then move one.  Mucking about in that stuff will just get you all dirty.

Ok.  That's what I have.  It's been a marvelous year.  And by that, I mean, I marvel at this year and all of its change.  I marvel at you, my clients, for being brave enough to run your own businesses and I'm so chuffed to be a part of it.

Happy New Year!
Maureen
